Today Israel is going to have it's national election and the whole world looks on upon it with hopes of a change. Many now hopes that with the way the war went, the opposition party, Likud lead by Benjamin Netanyahu, will win. Many people see it as a sign of change to the way the security of Israel and more importantly the middle east.
I for one have a bad feeling about this considering that even the Likud party would still not improve the terms for a cease fire and ending the Gaza blockade.
Yuval Diskin, head of Shin Bet: “Hamas is interested in continuing the truce, but wants to improve its terms”: an end to Gaza blockade, and Israeli ceasefire on the West Bank. The cabinet – high with election fever and eager to appear tough – rejected these terms. (J Hari, The Independent, 29/12/08)
